Max Verstappen’s appearance in the GT World Challenge Europe finale at Portimão has inspired a hilarious comment from fellow GT driver Nicki Thiim.
The Aston Martin driver joked that Verstappen probably wanted to drive a “real racing car” rather than the “electric things” he has been driving in Formula 1. The remark was a playful reference to the 2026 F1 power-unit regulations, which feature a much larger electrical contribution than previous generations.
However, Thiim also praised Verstappen’s passion for motorsport, highlighting that the Dutch driver simply wants to race, regardless of the car or category.
Verstappen is competing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 alongside Ben Barnicoat and Chris Lulham at the Portimão endurance event.
Was Thiim’s joke spot-on, or do you prefer the new generation of F1 cars?
