Yuki Tsunoda’s disappointing Red Bull F1 debut explained

Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull Racing F1 debut didn’t deliver the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix podium finish he dreamed of. In fact, the results were the stuff of nightmares as he qualified only 15th and failed to score points in 12th place.

While Tsunoda’s underlying performance was encouraging, this weekend exposed how much work he and Red Bull must do to get to the level expected of Max Verstappen’s team-mate. That was made even more obvious by Verstappen’s against-the-odds pole position and first win of the season.
